Inspiration #26 - Failing to see
Posted by Val Lewis on 1/26/2012 to Some of my Inspirations
Here I am, triumphant in my glories of accomplishing much yesterday.  Truly I found it a wee bit odd that of all the faces I happened to look at yesterday, I failed to see anyone smiling.

Driving to the Big City takes just over an hour, sometimes a bit more when there is traffic.  I had my radio on, and was singing and 'seat dancing' the whole way in.  It's mostly highway, but when I got to the City, and traffic slowed down a bit, I'd find myself rolling up to a red light, still bopping to the tunes, but as I really looked all around me, I saw soot-covered snow, people bundled up hurrying to cross the walkway, or waiting intently for their bus to come along.  It was...kinda yucky.  For lack of a better description.

City folk seemed so stressed, and wrapped up in their daily dramas.  A couple of people looked over at me from their cars with a mild look of astonishment.  I'd smile - they'd turn away.  Geez.  A smile doesn't cost a thing, and truly I know - it can make a whole person's day sometimes.  At least it can for me.

When I was right downtown, I felt surrounded by "business people" even though (in theory and reality, I am one myself).  It all seemed so...foreign to me.  Getting into an elevator crammed with men with suits and ties, I looked into their faces wondering what their 'story' was. One thing for sure, it didn't appear to me that any one of them would enjoy frolicing through a field of flowers.  (And my Mum wonders why I'm still single!)  Sheesh.

All this got me to thinking (again) about my love of Nature, and this quote came to mind:

In the hopes of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet.
- Albert Schweitzer

Of course, due to the way my mind unifies various elements, this led me to thinking about my new acquisition:  I purchased a camera for my garden that takes time-lapse photos, which you can download to your computer, and turn into a movie.  YaY!  I've been wanting one for a while, and came upon one while browsing online, and simply couldn't resist.  It should be here in about a week.,  I can't wait to be able to set it up and play.

All this to say that the dreariness of my yesterday woke me up recharged and revitalized, and filled with visions of color and cheer.  It's my way of making lemons with my lemonade of City-stuff.  I've already been putting together all kinds of bold and crazy color combos with my Boro glass, and am looking forward to a blissful day of creation.  Sometimes I find it helps to walk away from the Studio for a bit.  It makes coming back all that more wonderful.

I found a couple of quick videos, showing some great time-lapse flowers.  While the first one is more reserved, dignified, and shows a beautiful dance, the second one should perhaps be viewed only when fully awake (and maybe with the volume turned down), but is wildly - uhhhm...effusive.  Just my opinion, but here are two varieties of the same type of thing.  Enjoy whatever the day brings you ~!

Val, your blog is such a delight to read! You put such thought into it everyday. I love the time-lapse flowers. Especially the second video. How cool! That's so awesome you're getting a camera. I bet you'll have tons of fun playing around with it. I'd love to get one at some point, too. I take a lot of flower pictures & the time-lapse certainly adds a whole other dimension to it.... I hope you're having a wonderful day today!

I really like the 2nd video Val.If I was to give it a title, I would call it an "explosion of bloom." And yes, I was fully awake:) Just had my mocha frapp lite for the day before I viewed the video.

Thanks Suzi and Mick, for leaving your kind words. I'll definitely keep you all posted how my experiments go with the new camera. I guess I left that warning Mick 'cause I first viewed it at around 4 this morning, and it was...startling.
